Synopsis
Devil Mountain Trail is another beautiful wooded trail in Colorado, used mostly by hunters in the fall and winter. Although we didn't see anything in particular, this is supposed to be a great area for wildlife viewing. Lots of nice backcountry camping sites with whats left of the Devil Mountain Fire Lookout at the top.

Group Size:
The entire trail pretty much consists of a rocky mountain shelf road all the way to the top, with some areas for passing. Some of the dispersed campsites are larger than others, some closer to the trail, some more tucked away. 5 trucks or less recommended.

Difficulty
2.0- There isn't anything overly-difficult about this trail, as there are no real technical sections. With this being said it is much more than your typical graded mountain trail. Beyond the first half mile, the trail is a rough and rocky shelf road with a lot of potholes that fill with water and mud after recent rain. The last mile of the trail to the top turns into embedded rock and ruts which need to be taken slow, especially when wet. 4wd may be needed for this section depending on condition. Airing down is highly recommended on this trail!

Length
11.3 miles (One way)

Location
Southwestern Colorado in between Bayfield and Pagosa Springs, Co. Just 3 miles east of the First Notch Trail.
