Got a coupon today from harbor freight. One of the items in there is for a 12000# badlands winch (item 68142) for $329.

Good deal, bad deal, what's the deal?

cheap for 12k winch. cant get a warn m8000 for that price

I was looking at those too. but not sure of the quality either. It could be a really good deal, or a $329 boat anchor.

Ive been reading up on these, of course everyone and their mother has an opinion. The brand whores swear by Superwinch, Smitty, Warn, Titan, whatever.

On this brand the duty cycle is like 5% ... so you can do the full 12,000 lb pull for about 5 minutes, then the winch needs to rest. They are not the fastest, and they surely dont have a fancy website website.. but they do their work.

Harbor Freight also offers an extended warranty on them, so you just walk in with your broke winch and walk out with a new one. Rumor has it if you buy an 8K winch & warranty, and you break it, come in if there isnt one in stock you get the larger version. Strictly rumor though.

buy a snatch block, and have all the pulling power you need. remember you should run a short winch cable because you only get the rated pull on single layer.

I've run the crap out'ta many a Harbor Freight winch...they work fine.

cali: the metaltech engo one looks similar (nearly exact) to the harbor freight...

I don't trust Harbor Freight anymore. I had a couple items that I relied on; one was a flashlight; was about 30 miles off shore fishing and their POS equipment failed. I will not go there or buy anything anymore. You get what you pay for; that is the case most of the time.

But you didnt find out on your own. You asked a public forum to chime in and we read about how $2 flashlights dont float.

If you wanna find out on your own, you would drag your ass down to HF, drop the cash for the item and see what you get.
