Well at 187K .. the FJ is starting to show some wear and tear

P2759

www.transmissionrepair...com/p2759/
forum.ih8mud.com/threa...t.1218718/

so this is gonna be a possibly spendy repair.

Phoenix metro area..
of course a place like AAMCO comes to mind, but perhaps the collective knowledge has a suggestion?

You should call Steve at Transmission Outlet in Tucson. He's the guy that did my diff/trans/transfer swap into the GX from the burned up Precious. He seems to know toyotas very very well. (Being Seqoia Steve)

@Jimbolio - thanks for the recommendation -- if local to Tuscon I would definitely give them a call.

I did a recommendation for this shop in Phoenix:

so when the solenoid goes bad, those little balls in the valve body do wonky stuff like bounce around erratically. sure you could just replace the bad solenoid and depending how far, long, and hard you drove the vehicle after the light came on.. it might be a solution.

most likely you will need a replacement valve body like I did.

the shop turned around the repair in basically one day. I dropped it off at 9am; had the quote by 1:00pm; repair done the next day around 3:00pm.

good folks over at rebuildtrans.com, no bs, no upsale. They dealt with the Budbuilt skids [ budbuilt.com/Transmiss...p_526.html ] no issue and no labor upcharge.

back on the road and running great.

Just curious... how often have you changed the transmission fluid? I do a pan drain and refill every 30kmi. I wheel it hard and tow alot as well. All good so far at 130kmi. Also have a trans cooler.
