2019 Rav4 XLE AWD
Lunar Rock exterior over Tan Cool interior
We took delivery in May

203hp
8 speed automatic

The new Rav4s come with full underbody coverage in the same thick black plastic cladding used on FJ and Rav4 lower body panels. Nothing exposed, just a smooth flowing shield except for the open recessed exhaust to shed heat. Yeah, it's not a true heavy duty skid plate, but neither is the stocker on the FJ. Wink

The main factor limiting off-roading is the overhang, front and rear.

I took it on the first dirt road I drove my FJ on, both wearing all season radials. It's similar to a rally car road. In the "Normal" traction setting it handled and gripped very similar to an FJ.

It's not an off-road machine, but dirt roads are nothing to it.

A definite plus is 37mpg on the highway and lots of luxury and safety features.

I had shocking success recklessly offroading my folks' CR-V, those sorts of vehicles are surprisingly capable.

8 speeds is also pretty crazy...

This is of course my wife's new car though. She wanted a Rav4, but I picked the colors and options. We both really like it.
