My ARB fridge is 8+ years old and still working fine but it recently fails to power up with the DC cord connected to a battery. The fuse is fine so I’m guessing the wiring itself might have failed. The fridge works fine with the AC cord. Anyone else had a bad cable, or a problem within the plug? Is ARB the best source for a replacement cable?

There’s a circuit board inside the fridge that could have fried as well. However personally I’d give the cord a try first. Last time I called ARB they where very helpful. Maybe give that a try first. My fridge is about the same age and still going strong.

Thanks, Finn, I’ll give ARB a call to see what they say. Just realized I should have already put a meter on various parts of the cord to find out where/if the power stops. Then call if needed.

It turned out the DC cable plug had an old style ceramic fuse that I didn’t recognize the first time I had it apart. The fuse had a metal strip on the outside that had melted. I contacted a tech at ARB who was not familiar with this fuse and asked for pics. I sent the pics and he then called and said they had changed the plug design and no longer used that type of fuse. Then he said...how about if I send you a new one? I said sure and a few days later a new cable arrived. He thanked me for my loyalty even though the fridge was long out of warranty. These cables are $40+ on Amazon and eBay. I didn’t look but apparently the new cords use standard glass fuses. Hats off to ARB for taking care of their customers outside of warranty.

Glad they took care of you and your fridge is back up and running.
