not the armor.. but the replacement aftermarket rear diff covers that supposedly help in some manner.

The guy over at Banks Power is on a mission to shed some light on these products. Do they help or hinder and why?

Do you really want more fluid capacity?
Do you really want a different internal shape?

I think this guy is doing a great service for all.

not just the guy, but Gale Banks himself.
Yet I'm sure a ton of people "totally know better" than this dude... Rolling Eyes
Been watching his channel for a while, love learning the science behind what works and what doesn't. Smile

Does Toyota even have a diff that uses a cover? the ones I know of are all the pumpkin style, but it's not like I have a ton of experience outside the few I've owned.

Looks like Boztec hasn't updated their page since 2017. Not sure you can still buy these.
www.boztec.us.com/rear...plate.html

RCI makes a spendy one.
rcimetalworks.com/prod...tial-skid/

But that's about what the Boztec originally set me back. It now lives on the FJ Cruiser Differential which is hanging under my GX470. It has taken many blows and saved many pumpkins. I consider the investment returned for sure.

Those are diff skids, this is about Banks making full replacement covers for the style of diffs that use them (and the type of people that believe aftermarket is always better), and actually testing how the diff cover affects diff fluid temps and lubrication inside. most toyota diffs that I know of don't actually have a cover. it was a really cool series to watch and learn.
