Is there a good sequence of repairs for a home to be cleaned/upgraded for a sale?
Like: dont do the landscaping before the roofers etc.
Interior first or after the exterior etc.
Ive inherited my Moms home, not lived in for a number of years, and need to start contracting the repairs. Where is the best place to begin?
Looking at ; landscaping, general cleanup, a/c units, roof, suggested "should do" upgrades.

Is it worth the effort vs the return?

The most important consideration is the cost of the repair versus the impact on selling price. Start with an appraisal.
You can specify that a home is being sold "as is" and just be done with it. You can still do that after upgrades or repairs, of course, and ask a higher price than before, but you should first consider the realistic appraisal value change that those modifications would likely bring. Since you should expect haggling counteroffers, you're best off knowing what comparable properties are actually selling for in the area, plus/minus factoring in your upgrades to decide if you want to bother with it. If you can get the upgrades done for significantly less than the value increase, then its probably worth your time. You're basically going to sell those upgrades with the home at a mark up.
Either way, repairs or not, if you're not going to specify up front that you are selling as is, unless you undervalue the property, you're likely to get combined offers involving lower selling price versus asking you to fix up certain things at your cost. It would be up to you to take or leave those offers, and being as though you're not looking to sell this in order to move house, you have some room to consider your options or await other offers.
Also, you might consider to hang onto it for a while as the value may be back on the rise. That would involve doing functional maintenance and livability repairs, renting it, and watching the market.
