I had not, Im guessing an early repo, then another "real owner" then some performance shop sold it to itself (another company name) to take the loss and then sold it back to itself for the profit. Rinse repeat.

That's what I was thinking, possibly more than one repo. A lot of those no-credit dealers are really into recycling. Get something shiny, snag someone who can't possibly pay, circle of life and all that.
