Synopsis
Chimney Rock is a fun trail with beautiful views, a variety of challenges, and a high probability of solitude, unlike most of the trails in the Redington area.

Group Size
Although the trail is often narrow, the stopping places are large enough for big groups. Bring your friends!

Difficulty
3.0. Long, steep hill climbs or descents (depending on which direction you choose to travel), plenty of wash crossings with football to beach ball sized boulders, and a few mild ledges. Due to the fact that the trail follows a non-trivial wash for the majority of it's length the trail could potentially vary from "ho-hum" difficulty to "hmmm...how am I gonna get outta this" difficulty (potentially within a few minutes) if you are traveling during Tucson's monsoon season (July-August).

Length
8.4 miles from trail entry to exit. 3 to 4 hours, maybe longer depending on the weather and group size.

Location
West entrance is the "Belota Ranch HQ" access road at approximately mile 8 of Redington Rd. East entrance is just past mile marker 17.

Jake and I (and Mike when he gets back) are still working on Tucsonfest. We want it too cool down a bit and let monsoons calm down so we aren't all miserable camping in the rain.

Hello all,

I'm new here, and wondering if anyone was going to chimney rock this weekend? I did Chiva Falls 2 weeks ago and had a blast.

I have to replace a AC line tomorrow (and hopefully find a place to get the AC recharged).
We just ran Chimney Rock so I don't think I want to do it again right away. And not to sound like a wuss... but with the monsoons we've been having the past couple days, I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be running that trail with flash flood possibilities. There are several sections were you are in the wash for long periods of time without much to use as an exit if the weather turns.
I'd be up for running Italian Trap and then make a right at the bottom and exit out 3 Feathers on Sunday. That's a fun trip and we aren't in the bottom of a wash for hours at a time.
