We decided to get out of the hard heat and take a little road trip . 60 east to 77 and north to San Carlos Reservation and Seneca Lake . The map around the area looked promising for exploration.

We turned off at Seneca , which is a abandoned town/campground off of 77

There used to be a gas station, store, building for the camp ground, campground looked to be set up for full utilities, outhouses , boat ramp, etc
The story has something to do with a lack of payment/ bank foreclosure .

Here are a few pics of the lake area

Makeshift boat ramp

interesting

Lots of covers and picnic tables around

This was farther into some of the trails that fingered out of Seneca
I don't know what this group of buildings was, but it was obviously vandalized

The trail area was mostly like this, because at the end was a gated area that looked to be a mining operation

some of the off chutes we visited got tight

This is the type of trail exploration that got us to buy a good trail vehicle. it was all about exploration. Rose was delighted that we took this trip

To continue our journey
View from the trail we were on above the salt river

Salt river area
This area deserves more exploration. I believe I need to contact the Reservation to gain permission

I just love the drive through this area

Seneca Lake could be a great get together destination
Camping, fishing and exploring the area including all of the salt river area . I will contact the San Carlos Apache's to find out if this is possible and how we go about getting permits and stuff, but the weather was an easy 10-15 degrees cooler at about 5000 ft.
I will post what I find out

Don, do you have a more precise location for Seneca Lake? I searched Google Earth and there is no lake anywhere near the spot they designated. I see a couple others in the area but not Seneca.

EDIT: Nevermind, found it on hooked.az dot com.

This site has some good info about the lake:

Yes I visited that site. None of the amenities are functioning. I read some other the sites that boasts about stores and such. Not so much. I really think it has the makings to be a great camp/resort location. It would be cool to get that up and running again.

Was there any shoreline not covered by heavy vegetation, areas to fish from?

One of the pictures show some docks and around the docks , there were a few smaller areas to fish from. I didn't scan the entire lake. I think an inflatable boat would be idea for some good fishing

looks like a great spot to fish... has anyone been to Riggs Flat lately? I had great success there in the past, but there was a fire and then a mudslide which filled the lake.
