Are you really thinking about a front locker and gears? . Are you planning on 35's ? I'm not sure what gears will get you, with just running 33's Once you get down into low, it just doesn't seem to make that big of an impact .
The locker is a pretty big commitment. CV axles really don't like lockers. You can look forward to some repair bills if you decide to lock it.

I am just going by the thought that you will be challenging yourself and your truck. You are definitely in that mode. Nothing wrong with it, as long as you begin the process of learning how to replace these things, so repair bills don't include shop labor. Not locking mine was a decision I made for a few reasons
A) It was expensive to do
B) It's hard on front end parts.

If you use it as an occasional "tool in the box" and remember what binding will do, you may be ok. Just remember to look at the chain of "weak links", as you modify

Thanks for the feedback Don.

Nope - certainly don't want to go to 33"'s. one of my favorite things about the FJ is how it drives on the road and I want to keep that.

The locker and regear are kind of far down on my list of things to do, but will certainly make me more capable offroad. one of those decisions i wont make until i determine if i want to make the truck more offorad than streetworthy (not there yet). something similar to what marcus did with the lefty case perhaps, so I can have a "low low" as opposed to going to 456's, which isn't what I am after.

Did you mean - certainly don't want to go to 35's? I think you are already on 285's which are 33's. (Well, 32.9 depending on 17 or 16")

Changed my lighting set up-

I ditched the KC HID's and swapped installed a Rigid E Series 9500 lumen 20" LED Light Bar (Driving Flood Combo).

The grill is cut out and the bar is bolted to the core support so there is no wiggle or vibration.

I got this set up from AzPilotFJ who built the grill and fabbed the anchor/brackets. He did an amazing job and even helped me install. Here are some pics

I now have the factory holes in the Exp1 Bumper that I can still use that I took the HID's out of. Will probably install a couple small Cree LED floods that angle out to the side for more throw and coverage

On the short horizon (30-60 days):
*More lights Smile
*A custom rear bumper with high clearance and wrap around protection for the quarterpanels (goodbye wings!).
It will look something like this, but for the FJ

On the longer term horizon:
*Still looking at front E-locker
*Regearing to 4.56
Just trying to get all the pricing worked out

PS - I changed my rig name to "Stump Buster" in honor of its legacy, or you can call it "Stumper" for short Smile

Wow that 4Runner setup is weet. Going anywhere near as high on the FJ is going to require significant frame modifications, cutting up the body, etc. though...

Nice stuff Mikey . have you looked at any of the current aftermarket bumpers to see if they come close to what you are looking for?

Yes, but they are all significantly more expensive, heavier, and bigger. I saw the 4 runner bumper in person and would love to see it on an FJ
