Hi:

Any advice or validation please:

Please let me first preface that I like Budbuilt and his team. I did call Bud and he told me to send the skids back. It was 100% per my driver error on a boulder. I would just like to ask if anyone has used the FST Phoenix group below. Currently there is an offset 2" gap - front to middle skid plate. My primary concern is that I do not want to catch the bent upward front to the middle lower gap on a boulder.

fabricationsuspensiont...ology.com/

I was told and/or scolded to go here, so I called and they (FST, Phoenix) said... "no problem".

So my question, has anyone used FST? These are the powder coated 3/16" steel.

Thanks.

I've never herd of them.

However I've never herd of repairing skid plates. Most people just buy Abe new piece if one of there's is too bent up. Let us know how it goes and if it's cost effective.

For the record, I've never heard of FST either, so no help in the reference department.

That being said, I'm not sure what you are asking/trying to accomplish??

Are you taking the skids to FST for repair?
Are you going to have FST fabricate replacements?

Please elaborate....

BTW, that FJ Cruiser they have on their website with the exoskeleton is hideous.

Has anyone been able to figure out how that cage around the rear tire works? Can the rear door even be opened?

This is tough without a photo.

I would guess your complaint is where the two plates come together. A bend caused them to become a lip that can catch on rocks etc.

This is why every other plate set on the market makes all the seams at the frame rails.

The quick fix is to smash them with a hammer or hire the local guys you mentioned. This will be a temporary fix as all future hits will cause the same problem and the steel is now weaker then it was.

The hard fix is buy a set that can handle the abuse.

Ditto..

Had Bud Build skids with the same problems. The only answer is to scrap the pos bits sell the rest and buy something like man-a-fre.
