So I needed to get my co2 tank refilled in anticipation of our lower terminator run tonight... I took my tank to Ramsey's where they discovered I had a leak at the neck.

I explained I had a run tonight and I needed my air, so Gary directed me to take it down to Thunderbird on University to have the repair done (they don't do repairs in house, they send them out every Thursday). Suddenly, it occurred to him that he actually had a 10 pound tank on hand--which is rare, apparently.

So for no charge, I have a loaner tank until 2 weeks from Friday, when I can then pick up my tank in exchange.

Ramsey welding supply ROCKS!!

Thanks for the recommendation, Kurt!

Are tanks repaired on a normal basis? I would prefer to have a new one rather than a repaired one riding around inside my passenger compartment with me.

This is not a major issue. Let me demonstrate.

This is a picture of a CO2 tank and the red arrow points to where the air is coming from. The valve is leaking at the point where it tightens into the neck:

There are three solutions:

1. The valve needs tightening but requires special tools to do so and cannot be done with a wrench--you can't just tighten it and call it good, it needs to be tested after tightening.

2. There is seal failure at the threads requiring a new seal.

3. Total failure requiring complete replacement (extremely unlikely in this case).

Now, if this is a matter of just having a loose valve or a simple seal failure, why would you buy a completely new tank? That makes zero sense to me. That's like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Since the orginial post stated there was a leak in the neck, I assumed a crack in the neck was the problem. But, if it's the threads leaking, that shouldnt be a problem to fix.

Looks like you can save the water and the baby, too

Thanks for adding a picture of the tank! Otherwise, I wouldn't have known what a tank looks like... Rolling Eyes

Just demonstrating exactly where the leak was, nothing more. I figured you knew what a tank looked like. Laughing
