Well quite a few folks around here have mentioned they like expedition style off highway travel vs technical rock crawling...as part of my prep for this summers Continental Divide Expedition I am tying to get in some full weekend running with camping.
I posted a thread on expeditionportal.com and thought I would put a link here
expeditionportal.com/f...post190028
It is important to stress a couple of things if you are thinking of joinng me...
This is a training run more than a just for fun jaunt...so I will be trying to get up, pack up and hit the dirt each am by 8am. Also there will be stops to take pics & notes for the Disabled Explorers Trail Guides but I need to see what it is like to try to avg 200mile/day on dirt/pavement. This won't be a highspeed run but there will be the need to learn what a solid pace is that can last over 27 days.
I would like to keep the group smaller and would like to give first option to those who are new to here or new to me...I like the rest of you but I also know the rest of you But mike-tibaal already knew about the trip and he is in Tucson so don't get mad that he is on board.
thanks and check the expo thread for more info and who is coming

Sounds like fun! Hopefully you get some fresh faces to join you! If you haven't taken a trip with lance I highly encourage you to do so. He's a lot of fun to travel with. Post pictures! If no one else ends up going I might be down, but I definitely want to give someone new a chance to head out with ya!

No leaving friday at 3pm...I referenced departure times on expo but forgot to mention anything here..
The idea is to leave friday at 3pm when my son gets out of school and run to peppersauce campground in oracle/mt lemon friday evening...then sat to benson/tombstone/ghost towns/dragoons to camp then sun is tombstone/mexican border/ghost towns to patagonia then highway back to phx getting in late sunday night (9ish)
should be an action packed expeditionn weekend

I guess we are out. Dan doesn't think we should travel that far, since I already went to the hospital once...I know you are a nurse and all, but I don't want to give birth...I want my c-section....
...Hmmmm....I could ask my doctor if I could go - he would say yes as he doesn't really listen to a word I say and isn't really concerned about much.....

OK, we're back! This was a lot of fun. Lance and I were able to go over thoughts and numbers on how the Continental Divide Expedition might go and get some experience testing our expectations out in the dirt.
Here are some pics...
Martian vehicle... I must have one of these. Insane!!
Watch out for ghosts!
Looking down on Sierra Vista...
Rockcrawler from ExpeditionPortal descends...
Me on the Mexican border at Lochiel...
Coming back north towards the Santa Ritas...
Spot Lance's Blue FJ in this pic!
View from Gunsight Pass...
another a little down the way...
Spectacular views from the driver's seat...

Is that a pinzuki or pinzgauer vehicle? Looks like it was a nice trip.

Yup, it was a Pinzgauer. You can read about it here, it was ridiculously cool.
We had a few people come and go with us. The Pinz came out Friday night and left Saturday afternoon.
The MEGA LAND CRUISER as I call it came out to camp Friday night as well...
