You will now be able to carry concealed without a permit. Gov. Brewer signed the bill into law April 17th, 2010. So 90 days later it will be legal to carry concealed without a permit.
Edit - actually it won't take affect until 90 days after this current legislative session ends, so most likely September sometime.

I'll still continue to get my permit mainly for traveling to other states - Make sure you read the law though as there are somethings that a permit is still required for -
"Arizona's permit process will remain in place, and many gun owners may still choose to get a permit. Permits would still be needed in order to carry a weapon into a restaurant or bar that serves alcohol. They would also be needed if an Arizonan wants to carry his or her gun concealed in most other states."

Not really a problem for me.......don't hang out in bars. If I need my pistola in a restaurant then I really don't want to be in there. If the bar or restuarant posts a sign saying no firearms you can't bring it in anyway and I see an awful lot of those. The CCW is only good in states that honor it from AZ. 18 states don't honor a CCW from AZ. www.azdps.gov/Services...ciprocity/

the bar thing is more like Red Robin and such that I might visit with my kids so for me Permit is still the thing to have
glad this past
now what I want to know in the revised bill there was some talk of having made in AZ guns not subject to federal stuff ? so some class III type things if made in AZ we might be able to get ? have to look into this but SBR type stuff would be nice without having to pay the tax stamp and gov paperwork BS that goes with them

I was Kinda torn ..Im totoally for gun rights ( I too Have Az CCW)But For some reason that little thing in the back of my head thinks that one should still have to at least have a permit ..Only from the stand point that at least some level of training has to be demonstrated. does it really matter ? no !
Im sure there will be a few noodle heads in the first year and then things will settle down and You will now have to consider just as the police will that everyone you are around is armed.which is fine by me as long as they control their shots !!!! I dont wanna have to worry about stray bullets now !!

I do believe every LEO assumes everyone is armed, I know I would. The training for a CCW is not really that extensive. Yes they teach you about gun laws and safety which is a good thing, but the requirement to hit a target 14 out of 20 times? Is that all?

Is it not to some extent premeditated to take a class to carry a gun in which you plan on using as necessary to take a life in defense of self? Would it not be safer to pass on the CCW? Just playing devils advocate. Big hand Cannons for Everyone yea!

Most people who are out there looking to make trouble using a gun wouldn't bother with the permit in the first place...I think the small amount of extra risk associated with not having the training for a CCW is worth it if it means more law abiding citizens are carrying.

We did this before but I'll bring it up again. What about the "class" prepares anyone to "evaluate a lethal situation" , "determin to use lethal force", "using your peace to commit homicide", and "hitting your mark the first time". Lets see, oh ya,, all in about 5 seconds or less. Guess that about covers it.

In Az, your not required to take a class to carry a handgun that is visible! Is a person going to react any different to a situation, if their handgun is concealed or not? I would have to say "no"!
A person should be required to take a class or show proof of taking a class before legally obtaining a firearm, whether they are going to carry concealed or not!

just for fun about the course read with a smile and see what you think
everyone has to take a driving class/exam ? yet look at the idiots out on the road !!!
a class wont do anything ! those that want to learn more will those that do not wont ! again look at the drivers out there !! this has been proven over and over in most things one gets into
I worry more about getting in a accident and killed by a driver than being shot by a person CCW
even when it passes things wont change much
whos class ? will you take a LV class or equiv and actually learn quite a bit or someone teaching a few hours and 20 rounds ?
so if a LV or equiv person meaning a 3 day intense course 1000+ rounds and cost of $750+ or so ! those course you do learn a lot
would you still say everyone should have a course if this was the course you had to do !!!!
what if you already have 1000s of hours and many training classes and are a competition shooter ?

the shooting aspect of the ccw is what it is...i however really enjoyed the class only b/c it exposes one to a lot of info that was always circumspect too me, before the class. The class dispelled a lot of "common knowledge" or " tribal type shit" that has simply been passed down or around and is accepted but isn't necessarily legal or the law.
I know where you can take the class for 40.00, is instructed by an mcso who is super cool and ridiculously knowledgeable.

I look at it this way, I agree EVERY law abiding citizen has the right to carry/own firearms, but what about criminals?!?!? So basically now in AZ some thug POS can LEGALLY carry a concealed weapon, where as before a cop could bust them for it and add it to a list of charges. Criminals are going to break the law no matter what is done, but now they can get away with it. A ccw class doesn't show you how to use a firearm, you're already supposed to know how to use your firearm before the class. The class does go over important laws though, like what you can use deadly force for. In AZ you can use deadly force in 3 situations, without taking the class do you know what they are?? Well for those who don't, you can use deadly force to prevent death, rape, or kidnapping. How many people that are going to be carrying concealed are going to know this now? I liked the CCW class because it informed you of laws and situations.
