I then repacked the ball joint with grease to replace what was lost and contaminated and then re-installed the boot. It is a PAIN IN THE BUTT to get the retaining ring back on. You need to be very careful not to tear the boots while doing this. With a little patience, beer and swearing I was able to accomplish this.
Unfortunately I have already seen this thread and it doesmt help. I already know its a pain in the butt. I am trying to find someone who can explain what they did or even better...show pics.
I gave up and just stuck it on there without the ring. It wont last long but neither did the original. I will be taking it all apart again before too long to have the shocks rebuilt and will deal with it again then.
