Has anyone had this code?

My mom lives in payson and this morning her check engine light was on and this is the code I got. Knock sensor, bank 2. I am guessing rodents chewed through the wires to the sensor. That is what I finding is common for this code. As soon as I clear it, it comes back on.

The best I can tell, the sensor is under the intake manifold on top of the engine. I can't find a picture of it, only a couple of diagrams, but they aren't to specific. I have searched the forums, and this is the info I have found.

Any help is appreciated.

You could replace the knock sensor

That's my plan. But, I can't find the sensor.

There are two sensors under the intake manifold attached to the block with one bolt each. Bank 2 is the drivers side on the 1GR engine. I have never had to replace one but according to the FSM its major surgery as the heads even have to be removed. Book time is something like 20+ hours!

Unless you have the mechanical skills and time to attack this it may be better to submit an insurance claim as i believe someone else did a while back. Then again perhaps where the harness is damaged is accessible and able to be spliced without removal of the heads. Getting the intake off is pretty easy.

I read on one of the forum where a guy said he didn't have to remove the heads to do it. It just makes for a real tight working area. Hopefully, I will be able to repair the wire, instead of having to replace the harness.

What kind of claim would be made for the insurance to cover it?

Well if indeed it is rodent damage that should fall under your comprehensive policy.

That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the info.

Rats destroyed my wire harness about this time last year. The wire harness was pretty expensive to replace. I went the insurance route, they were going to pay it out but they insisted on using a wire harness repair outfit to repair the chewed pieces. No problems so far.

Got an estimate for $1600 to replace the sensor harness.

My insurance company found a wire harness repair specialist that drove out to the dealer where my FJ was located and fixed it in an afternoon for 400 bucks. Unfortunately, i've been living in Texas for the last several years and can't offer a referral.

She got it repaired for $800. They where able to repair the wire, didn't have to replace anything.. I had them put heavy steel wool on top of the engine as they put it back together to hopefully prevent them from getting back in there.
